Find Original Information From Whatsapped Image

Is it possible to find the original information from an image if it has been received via WhatsApp?
I have been sent an image taken a few years ago, maybe 10 or 11ish, and I was wondering if it was possible to date it correctly.
I read before that a lot of information is created in the background when a picture is taken on a phone, but is this information still contained in the image after it has been sent by WhatsApp?

I think the metadata disappears when you send something via Whatsapp (same with facebook)

Get the sender to re-send the image using the method in the link I gave.
