Prior to the Queens' funeral, Huw Edwards on the BBC said that over 500 heads of state would be in attendance. As there are only about 200 countries in the world, I couldn't understand where they got this figure from. Any ideas folks?

and the head of state of quite a few of them is Charles. Maybe he just said a hundred? I didn't hear him.
Many countries are divided into states, provinces, etc. Maybe these were states he was referring to?

Thanks jno but he definitely said 500.
He probably meant 500 seating in Westminster Abbey. I didn't see it as I was watching ITV.

Could be Hazl but I'm not convinced, eg, was there heads of all the American states in attendance? Dunno!
^^ Don't think from US but it's not the only country which has states.
Google states that about 100 Heads of State and Government officials attended the Service at Westminster today.
There were about 500 foreign dignitaries attending so probably a slip of the tongue.
500 heads of state and vips I think it said, would that include spouses/partners
Every country was allowed two attendees. A few could have up to 10.
If he said 500 heads of state it was a faux pas :-)

Thanks for the replies folks. I'd say that ichkeria has has nailed it. Huw Edwards definitely said 500 heads of state, though. Thanks again.
