Hi brawband

The solenoid is mounted on top of the starter motor, it looks a bit like a smaller version of the the starter itself riding piggy back. It has an heavy duty live cable coming from the battery and one or two smaller cables that carry the signal from the ignition switch. Hope this helps.

Found this, not Freelander but shows what a solenoid looks like, yours is the second picture
