Thanks, that helps me!
Hi Pembi,

Some people have nothing better to do than make a full of themselves?

Your problem may be the thermocouple. Basically speaking, this is a safety device that will not allow your boiler to light if there is a fault. It is the part where the pilot light comes from. A company called Orkli UK Ltd. sell a universal one Part Number T140-900.

There telephone number is 0208 974 1120. or you can have a look at: www.keeptheheaton.com

I hope this may help you.

Regards

Thank you very much. I have just had a plumber out who didn't have a clue. Will I (my dad!!!) be able to fit this part (he is quite handy) or will it be best if someone qualified fits it?

Thanks again

Hi,

I would say yes if he is quite competent. It is not difficult but please remember that he is working with gas.

Regards
Under the gas insallation & use regulations 1998 it is illegal for anyone to work on a gas appliance unless they are fully qualified to do so & a member of the Council of Registered Gas Installers ( CORGI ) The Thermocouple is a saftey device that shuts off the gas if there is a problem yes it may just have failed and need replacing but Do you know this for sure and that there are no poison CO fumes starving the pilot from oxegen or there is a blocked flue or fan failure or flame lift or a host of very dangerous situations that may be stopping the pilot from igniting. Is it worth the risk of you ,your family and your neighbours lives for the sake or approx 65 to fix it if it is the thermocouple. But at least it will have been checked & tested for saftey and repaired properly if you use a CORGI engineer and also your household insurance will be void if something does happen & you havent used a CORGI man . So i beg of you to get it done professionaly... PLEASE...for your own safety
