wants sanctions against Iran (Sunday Times) because of a man's attack on Rushdie. What on earth is the point? What could it achieve? There are already sanctions against Iran. Utterly absurd.

In 1998 the government of Iran announced that it did not support the killing of Rushdie. That being the case, what exactly would sanctions be designed to achieve?

JNO, the tell-tale word in your link is ‘nation’. Politics involving two factions isn’t way Khandro is talking sbout.
*what* not way.
Re the best answer, I thought Iran said they did not support the fatwa but equally did not oppose it either
I have done so, Khandro, and I stand by what I said.
It's got the whiff of desperation in the leadership race about it.

When you consider the way May won the Tory leadership (the other candidates gave up) am a more than a little curious as to why Sunak still thinks it's a good idea to stay in the race.
Maybe he's lining himself up as the next choice in case Truss comes a cropper.
