It is not normally the TV you hook up to the sound system but the DVD player or Sky box.

The TV will not output sound in any 5:1 or other fancy format.

The DVD player will output in surround sound (5:1 for example) so you need to feed that into your AV amp or whatever and it will split it into the 5 or 6 speakers.

See what connections you have on the back of the DVD player (or sky box) and see if you can feed them into your surround sound system.
