After 'Silence of the Lambs', I found the sequel 'Hannibal' extremely disappointing. The only bit I found tense or thrilling was the brain-eating scene near the end. I hope this new Hannibal Lecter movie is better. Does anyone know anything about it? What is it called? Is it a remake of the original Lecter film 'Manhunt'? Is it any good? (don't give away surprises, though).

It's called Red Dragon (the name of the first book) and as such is more of a re-interpretation of the book reather than a straight remake of Manhunter. I thought it was a lot better than the disappointing Hannibal, with Dr Lecter back to his creepy, chilling best.Compared to Manhunter, it feels a lot slicker, but as to whether it's a better film, that's up to you! I prefered Red Dragon because the characters were familiar to me, but I don't think it is as atmospheric or tense as Manhunter. The only major criticism I have is that Dr Lecter seems to have become a parody of himself in the original Silence Of The Lambs. But all in all, I would say it is a good film, definitely worth seeing!
Definitely better than "Hannibal". As to whether it's better than "Manhunter" - that's hard to say. By now I've seen Manhunter twice and read the book of "Red Dragon", so it's more a case of "how did they portray this?" - though the director definitely took the "Less is More" approach when it came to gore (something distressingly lacking in Hannibal). It's closer to the book than Manhunter was, although they did alter the ending (an improvement). You also got a real insight into why Will Graham gives up tracking serial killers (not because of the danger - though there's plenty of that! - but because it messes you up mentally).
I also found Hannibal a bit disappointing. I had read the book, which shocked and scared me, but then ridley scott and the writers completely left out the unnerving exploration of Lector's brain, and they changed the ending, which in the book was brilliant. The only good thing with the film was that it left out the 'reason for lector being cannibal' part which rather ruined the mystery of his character in the book. Red Dragon is better, again, the ending changed from the book, this time not so badly. It is a remake of Manhunt, and i guess it depends whether you prefer the more modern take and camera work as to whether it is better.
I read Hannibal and reached the conclusion that as a film it wouldn't work, how right I was! I thought it was a bad film, typical of Hollywood just trying to cash in. Likewise with remaking Manhunter, which is a very good film, and didn't need to be remade, in my opinion.
And I found the man choped the lamb and spread the blood over his waistcoat. That's strange. I would cum on his cravat
