Removing old mastic

How can I remove old mastic off a bath. I have moved the bath around but now the good side that shows is covered in old mastic from where it was situated before and looks horrible.

I it is silcone - there is a silcone remover available in DIY stores for removing it - dont know if it will affect the paintwork on your bath though - if it isn' silicone try white spirit.
