One of the meanings of the word "cob" is a bread roll.

Presumably the expression "it's raining cobs" is suggesting that it's raining so hard that the raindrops seem to be the size of cobs.
Cob is also a type of nut. The explanation would be similar to the bread roll one.
No idea, but an old friend of mine used to say he was 'sweating cobs'.
Probably nothing to do with it, but wasn't a cob also a type of horse?
More likely it's from the Old English mud-and-straw brick known as a cob (probably from the same root as the cob loaf). Raining (or sweating) cobs would imply fairly heavy precipitation.
