Handheld Cordless Light-Weight Easy To Empty Vacuum Cleaner.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to drag my Miele Cat & Dog vac around my small flat. My cleaner comes once a fortnight and uses it but I need something I can use in between times. I can vac my flat in 10 minutes so that is a point to be considered as well I suppose. I'll pay what I have to pay to get what I want.

I no longer subscribe to Which where I could consider their Best Buy recommendation unfortunately but hopefully I can get some on here.

I have a gtech...a pink one.
I think the battery has died and I don't know if it's worth replacing. I never found it to be very good for pet hair.

Which? doesn't rate the GTechs highly because they aren't good for pet hair/threads, they aren't good for retaining allergens and they can only be used on floors (they don't dissemble to use as a hand-held on furniture etc).

Don't know about pets, Ginge but I know about threads! No problem at all here on the wooden floor in my workroom or the carpeted landing where my threads and bits get trailed.
The hand held one that came with it is perfect for curtains, sofas, mattresses etc.. Dave does the stairs with it. :-)

Look, we've all got our favourites and our opinions are all very subjective (our cordless Dyson is over five years old and we would replace it with another, when the need arises)...but Which? actually tests them against each other. So, that's whose opinion I would trust.

What about a robotic cleaner like a Roomba (other makes available)

You just push a button and off it goes - some even have a remote control.

No.2 son just phoned me and he has a GTech and doesn't like it at all. Incidentally my dog sheds very little hair, very little! I'll pick the two I like the best then ask my cleaner's opinion as she uses different ones in all the places she cleans. Plus she knows me and my flat.

I’m tempted to get a Roomba for myself. I gave one each to my son and husband’s son for Christmas. One said it was very good. The other said it was quite good. One has a large dog; the other has a new baby. So ? Is it worth trying? I might risk it.

The only thing with Roomba is that a black carpet can confuse its cliff sensors (thats the means of Roomba detecting when its over a stair edge etc.) I discovered that when trying to get it to clean the car boot - it didn't like being in the boot!

LB - I have had both corded and cordless and ok there are a lot of favourable reviews for the cordless but I personally do not think cordless picks up strong as the ones with electricity to make the job easier. I have a wee cheapie and corded and bought sister one for Christmas as had a very heavy one - mind you haven't asked her how she is doing with it. But wouldn't have cordless about me - no strength in them.

Thanks JJ, I didn't realise that. When my cleaner comes home from Poland next week I will ask her opinion as she must use different ones in the houses she cleans and will probably know which would suit me best.

How about a robot one? Our son got one at Christmas and it just bumbles about going back to base to charge and picks up plenty of stuff in between proper cleans. Plenty on Amazon and not expensive either.
