I am seeing a pattern in recent tv dramas - the lead character must stride purposefully in a big overcoat.
I noticed it first in Peaky Blinders, then Taboo, Poldark does it and now it's Gentleman Jack.

I'm tempted to dig out my old RAF great coat :D

Has a coat starred in any other drama?

Been some great coats that starred in films. Warren Beatty's bright yellow one in Dick Tracy, Deckard's in Blade Runner(the original) and the best of the lot , the slow motion coat of Keanu Reeves in the Matrix.

Bradley Walsh’s mac in Law and Order. I’ve never watched a whole episode, but whenever I’ve looked up at the screen he always seems to be striding around in a long beige mac.
"Life on Mars" Gene Hunt - always with his camel overcoat - great series - just finished re-watching it!
