Hi, its happened only recently, when I play a dvd from the drive of my laptop ( sony Vaio) the picture and sound is a fraction slowly causing a staggered picture and sound- any idea?

Try using different DVD playing software to see if the problem remains. If it does then it is probably some software that you have either knowingly or unknowingly installed.
