I heard a few years ago a chemical had been found to kill off midges. Since then I have heard nothing. Scotland is a wonderful place to go for a holiday but it must put off a high percentage of people wishing to go there. Has any success been achieved?

Avons skin so soft seems to repel midges for some reason. It depends on where you go obviously there are more midges in the country and near water but in town they are not a problem. It seems to be worse after its been raining so that would rule out about 360 days in the year. Dont let that put you off, just avoid caravans in fields near livestock and water. Come to Paisley its rare!
Midges may be small, but there are so many of them, they are a vital part of the ecosystem. Kill them all of and and you upset the whole foodweb. By all means repel them from your personal space, but otherwise leave them be.

I use antihystimine tablets for my hayfever and i have been told that one of the welcome side effects of using antihystimine is that the body disposes of the drug by excreting it through the sweat glands, this in turn somehow repels the dreaded midge. I might be wrong but its something i believe to work and i spend alot of my time in the Highlands and Islands (it could be a placebo effect thing).... Can anyone confirm or rubbish my suggestion?
