when i were a lad eons ago on the way to school (walking)i use to pass a weed which i knew as a "stinking nanny" probably what my parents called it, anyone remember this stinking weed, not seen it for decades if you caught your clothes on it you carried that smell all day, even though we go walking in woods and pastures we cant se it anymore, just a memory that's all .....

thanks anyway,
Wild garlic is also called stinking nanny and you can smell that a long way off. Tends to grow in damp or shady wooded areas. Can you remember anything about its appearance?

prudie
it was a plant around 3 ft high no flowers thin mid green jagged leaves and the smelly part was the what i suppose was it seed carrier that was a lighter greeny white bit, not an attractive weed at all..as i recall it did not smell in the air but touch or catch your clothes on and it stank like a disinfectant
love the wild garlic smell, our favourite time in the woods then the bluebells
it was only walking through our local pasture area this week we thought where had the stinking nannies gone, looks like a few plants were called that so dead end,
Can I ask which part of the country you lived as a lad Piper?
