Where can I get a car insurance quote from for someone who has a criminal (non motoring) conviction which goes back almost 7 years and is actually almost spent. Either online or by phone. Normal quote engines ask for disclosure of this and then dont quote. Thanks in advance

I think that if the conviction is 'spent' under the terms of the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974 then you don't need to disclose it. However, some conviction never become spent. Check out the terms of the act - just google ' rehabilitation of offenders act' and read up on it.
You will be almost certainly be able to get insurance, some insurance companies and brokers will refuse but others will still quote.
For interest, you could get an online quote without declaring it (because they will not quote for any but starightforward quotes online) and then get one with the declaration.
It is of course paramount to declare the conviction because otherwise you may find you are not insured.
''Applying For Insurance
If the proposal form asks whether the applicant has any previous convictions, the answer can be 'no' if the convictions are spent. This is the case even if the conviction is relevant to the risk which the insurers will underwrite. (For example, spent motoring convictions are not required on a proposal form for motor insurance.)''

checked it out myself out of nosiness so it looks as though you are ok in not disclosing once it is 'spent'

Hi, thanks for answers so far, the conviction is spent in March next year so really it does have to be declared until then. Still cannot find an insurer that quotes. Any more suggestions?
Would have thought that it would be best to give the information to a broker and let them see what they can do. There are plenty of insurers listed in the back of motoring mags who say they insure high risk drivers, so would imagine that a broker would find you someone.

All I would say is that when a broker finds you something, make sure you check the proposal form they send you to sign. I had one come back saying that I didn't ever drink and various other nonsence, which I changed and sent back. I think they have stock answers they use to save time!
