I'm at a similar stage to you. I can get some clues, then realise that they need to be SWAPPed with their PARTNER .
The most obvious of these is 20a - which means QUILT, but because Q is partnered with B & Q, you swap the Q for a B.
In 10 clues there are one or two unused words (not always easy to identify) which then match up in some way with each other.
4d - A bit much (everybody = all) arriving for tea!
