In answer to the OP it is always difficult with these cases. I am always suspicious of parental push, like those ridiculous mothers in the US for beauty pageants.
My feeling is children need a balanced childhood and whilst brilliance should be nurtured the child should also have 'time to grow up' to avoid any potential mental problems in the future.
