Hi, The company I've been working at for about 7 months is on the brink of closing down due to debt and lack of work coming in. They cannot afford wages for the last month and have told everyone not to come in. We are getting forms to reclaim our wages.

Anyway, they have asked me to go in every now and then on a freelance basis to help finish up jobs while I'm looking for a new job. This is good as I need the money and they are paying me by cheque each day I'm in. I do already fill in a tax return form every year as I am registered self-employed. I, however have not done any self-employed work for a long time. All I want to know is what I need to fill in on that. Is it just a case of taking note of everything I'm paid and then just putting in the total on the form. Do I need to give any other info at all or send any invoices or anything?

Thanks for any help.

Am sorry that I don't have an answer for you, but just a thought about the payment by cheques - If they are closing down due to debt have they got enough funds to cover the cheques?
If you earn less than 64,000 a year you can complete the "short" form,SA103S.
You won't need to send in any documentation with the form but you'll have to keep your invoices etc for 5 years and 10 months.

Thanks for the answers. So do I just need to write up some invoices myself for my records? They're just giving me the cheques as and when I go in so I've not give them invoices.

Vegasmad, they can afford the daily cheques. It's not a huge amount. They are giving me them when I go in. They couldn't afford to pay everyone like this though.
get cash only
You can write yourself invoices if you want but wouldn't it be easier just to write down the details in a small notebook and keep that?

Yeh I'm noting everything down. Want to keep very organised with this!

Thanks again for your answers.
I think you have to note everything, go if they need you to send your invoices then go. Anyway, they will inform.
