Hi there,

I am thinking of installing cork floors all through my downstairs as our flooring needs replacing and I have been reading that cork is the most eco friendly material to use.

Does any one have any experience with living with a cork floor (I have 5 children and a dog) or experience DIY installing one?

Are they nasty 1980s or terrific 2000s?

many thanks
mimi

i dont know about installing cork floors but my mum had them on her kitchen floor for years and they did seem to soak in just about everything. We all grew to hate them. On the other hand they are pretty eco friendly and i saw a man in a trendy interior mag recently who had panelled his whole house in chipboard?!?
i have a cork floor in my bathroom - sealed and varnished and I can assure you it does not soak up anything - its easy to clean and warm underfoot - husband installed it - quite easy with a glue for cork.

Ummmm, interesting: Hung Jury!

I wander if anyone can tip the balance. I think i've kind of made up my mind though and will probably go for them and just make sure they are well sealed.

thanks for taking the time for me to answer.

cork is very 'eco friendly' as the bark of the tree is harvested without effectin the life span of the tree.there is a product available on a system similar to laminate flooring which clicks together, it comes in abt 7 different colours aswell as the original cork look.so eco friendly, easy to fit,n sealed but they dont g/tee it for bathrooms.
hope this helps
