In most music shops are packs claiming to be perfect for beginners. For example, in a local music shop is a deal for: a Boston acoustic guitar, tuning aid, gig bag, strap, picks and free lesson. Costing 79 in total.

This is obviously quite cheap, but would the cheapness reflect the quality. I mean is the type of guitar decent and would people say that this was generally a good deal?

Thanks!

It really is a case of you get what you pay for. The guitar will most likely be crap, with high action being the most likely example of poor quality.
The best value guitars (In my opinion) that are available in starter packs are Squiers, Epiphones and the Yamaha Pacifica. Both are excellent guitars for the money. Squier guitars are made by Fender and are cheap versions of true classics. Epiphones are the same but by Gibson. The Yamaha Pacifica is remarkably good for the price. They have nice thin necks and are quite easy to play.
