Whilst sitting in McD's on Sunday I was shocked at the number of young children in there that had highlighted hair, they were mainly young boys no older than 10.

I also saw one in my high street the other day who was naturally dark but the fringe was peroxide blonde, with peroxided circles around the rest of the head like ladybird spots.

Personally I think its wrong that children should be allowed to do this what do you think?

Most children have their ears pierced very young, i was 5! and if the child has deceided that they want their hair colouring how is that any diferent to an adult wanting their hair colouring? Children know how they want to look.
Noxulmus.I've clearly touched a nerve here. Just because I don't agree with your 'liberal' views on child abuse you end up being abusive. The main problem with society today is that parents don't know how to say NO to their precious children. Whether it's hair, clothes, shoes or food, they can't say NO ! The poor little darlings can't cope at school, so the parents end-up educating them at home. These kids usually turn-out to be social mis-fits,having to run home to mummy or daddy if they don't get their way.
Finally, i'm not ignorant or judgemental, but I do know how to say NO. My son & I have a great relationship,& he knows where I stand on certain issues & he respects that. He also understand that i'm not some milksop of a father who will give in to some silly fashion statement.
there you go again carrust

"i am not some milksop of a father who will give in to some silly fashion statement"

- it is not up to you to "give in"!!!

he is an adult!!!
it is not your decision to make, there is no giving in to do!!

you clearly didn't take a blind bit of notice of the comments you received regarding the tattoo issue - well except the few that agreed with you of course.

i think you'll find it is your son who will eventually become distant from you unless you can get over this controlling attitude - he is a grown-up now.
"Poor little darlings can't cope at school, so the parents' end up home-educating..."

Of all the offensive things people have said through the years of my home educating my children, this was the most hilarious. I may well post it on the many forums/newsletters that I am a member of to highlight the narrow minded stupidity some people still possess!

I am still laughing now....

p.s were you state educated then? Obviously, nox and I (and anyone else) are doing it all wrong, we're missing out on a perfect opportunity to have children that turn out like you. What were we thinking of? I think I'll go and buy a couple of uniforms now.....

ha ha ha.
When my son gets his own place he can do what he wants. But at the moment he is living under my roof & I make the rules.
My eldest "social misfit child who feel the needs to run home to Mummy and Daddy" has recently been in Lebanon and Israel covering the war there as he's a photographer , since being deaf he felt that a visual career would be easier for him.I'd imagine you'd assume he hasn't run home to Dad yet because he can't hear the bombs falling around him, or maybe that's because giving children self respect and the ability to self discipline is actually a method of parenting that works and makes strong minded young adults.
Parenting is the most serious job of your whole life and whatever you may think I happen to be confident that my kids will all grow up to be happy, well adjusted, strong individuals with a good sense of right and wrong and a desire to make a positive difference. So far I've not been disappointed with either the pierced or non pierced ones as a piercing or two isn't at all important to anything , which is something you seem to miss the point of. As for your son, I really feel sorry for him, and sadly you really will reap what you sow in the fullness of time.
