Strange Phone Call Today

To my mobile, first seven numbers were identical to my mobile as was the ninth number, no one answered when I picked up. I blocked the number. Could it have been some type of scam?

Definitely, scammers ' mirror' numbers then change a couple of digits ie a call might come in from 1020, 020 being London, then when checked it's somewhere like the Seychelles in missed calls

Yes, I had one which was my mobile number apart from the last digit. It was from 'HMRC'. Reported it.

I had one this morning with a very similar number to mine, turns out I am being arrested for irregularities re my National Insurance number.

I'm afraid I pressed one and then invited the person who picked-up to do something anatomically impossible ...

... interestingly, the calls which had been plaguing me for days (from a variety of similar numbers) then promptly stopped.

I've had a few recently, but don't pick up call from someone I don't know, they can always leave a message if it's important.

I don't speak if I get these calls, or press any buttons. There is a few second gap, then the automated message kicks in.
The only reason I picked up is that the number was so similkar to mine, so I just assumed it may have been someone I knew.
