Hi over the last 8-10 yrs ,I’ve been buying shares offered to me by my company . I had 600 + shares with another 150 given as bonus . They were doing ok until covid hit and they have dropped in price , but I know they would recover in time. Today I had a letter telling me that my shares have been sold. I’ve received a fraction of the price that I’ve actually paid out for them. I didn’t give my company any authorisation to do this. I was buying these shares to sell at retirement age. Can my company do this

Depends on the terms you signed upto
My question is how can they sell something that doesn't belong to them?
If they have sold them then they obviously can do so. Presumably what you wanted to ask is whether or not they were allowed to sell them. Then the answer is "Depends on the terms you signed up to".
Pretty sure there will be a clause in the agreement saying they can do this.
