In 1984 Winston dreams that he'll meet Bernard in the place of no darkness. Was this an unexplained premonission or had Winston been tortured & brainwashed previously? It's a long time since I've read 1984 but it allways made me curious.

i think thats the idea......that you don't KNOW what Winston has been through...and neither does he.
