OH and I are thinking of taking the little one foraging this weekend, to get him used to nature and so on.

Can anyone recommend what sort of things to forage for and perhaps suggest some recipes - maybe for jams or for a nice jus for meat. I also love adding herbs to just about everything. I'm particularly curious about edible flowers.

Any suggestions appreciated and any tips / stories from avid Foragers would be most welcome. There's abundant woodland and countryside where we live.

Thanks.

Ha ha, one of the memories of my childhood was my granddad taking us all out and we have to fill our buckets with Dandelion heads and he made wine out of them.

Barry - thanks for the link. There's a fair bit that's still forageable at this time of the year.

At that age would reccomend more of a nature hunt. Conkers and their shells, pine cones and twigs to paint for Xmas. Leaves put under a sheet of paper and then rub a pencil over the outline to colour. Feathers, any fallen bird nests. Also stuff to make a wreath
I totally agree Wolfgang but they might like to prick the sloes! and yes LadyCG. We used to help Mother make corn champagne and corn whisky a very long time ago. It was great fun for us kids when the corks flew!
