you kindly helped earlier with answers giving the answer oxlip seemingly for 'wild on the mountainside'

I failed to understand this but now have an answer to all other questions with thanks to other Abers
Ageing fast has great faith in your answers and suggested I post again hoping you might explain

There is one thing that bothers me if its so difficult to answer and the rest of the quiz has been quite straightforward , without wishing to do down the lady setting the quiz, maybe there is a simpler one we have not thought of

Hope its OK with you kayakamina

there is a mountain ox ----

on the side of mountain =
on the side of ox

wild = giving 'lip'

ox + lip = oxlip
another way to explain would be: -

Read the clue as

Wild on the mountain .... side

Wild on the mountain i.e OX (wild beast that roams the mountainside)

Side is a LIP

OXLIP

Thanks louse and I do not want to sound ungrateful. If this answer needs explaining to such a degree, it really doesn't fit in with the rest which were quite straightforward so I think I will hang on a bit longer to see if I or someone else can think of a simpler one. The quiz doesn't have to be in for a few days
Well that is precisely the way I read it and gave as an answer on wendyl's first posting of the question. Louse, Kayakamina, you and I have all given the same answer, albeit in different ways.

sorry folks but here on the Essex coast we don't have many oxen or mountains so wasn't aware of any elsewhere!
Another way to look at it-
Wild=Wildflower, mountain=Ox (mountains in Ireland,Sligo area), side=lip(edgeof a cup is the lip)
mac44 has convinced me with the Ox mountains in Ireland - just wasn't sure about that mountain ox.
wendyl. Apologies but I have only just seen your post.

I am inclined to agree that the setter did not have convoluted answers in mind when setting the quiz and I am sorry my suggestion of Oxlip has caused so much discussion.
When the clue came up I immediately thought 'mountain ox ' and 'side-lip'.
Possibly I should have placed a ? after my contribution to indicate it was an offer and not a definitive answer..
Good luck K

if you read this kayakamina thanks perhaps I shouldn't say so but I quite like it when a question gets lots of answers makes life a bit more interesting!

I think I'll still keep looking for an 'easier' answer although mac44 has increased my knowledge of irish geography along the way
