Difficult to answer. Gold jewellery here can be really cheap, but it's not great quality. The quality is higher in the States (14 carat is standard rather than 9) but the price reflects that.

My husband bought my engagement ring in New York a couple of years ago, a 14ct white gold princess cut diamond and it would have been near impossible to buy it over here for the price that he paid. I'll be going to NYC 05/08/04 just for this purpose.
