Exactly, but how do you explain the first part of the clue. I am still wavering. Many thanks to you both. Hope someone will come up with another slant on it.
I have been looking at E (English) & S (succeeded) inside RIT ( Ritardando - slowing down musically) leading to RESIT (second test). It looks plausible but I have not been able to establish the "succeeded" element.
Now you've got me thinking blueberry and I have the the perfect solution.
Since I submit online I'll just re-submit with the alteration. I checked with the Times and members may submit any amounts of entries, just a matter of luck which one they pick (if any). This doesn't help you of course, sorry.
Thank you crofter. I had only thought of rallentando, forgotten about ritardando. Just looked up S in the dictionary, and it does stand for succeeded, so I am pretty convinced it's resit after all.
All finished now! Good luck everyone! Thanks again
