cd burner

i got a laptop from my sister a few weeks ago! All is good other than i can't get the media player to burn a cd im not sure where to look for the hardware/software? I have managed to upgrade to windows media player 10. It tells me that it can't find the device? please help... thanx

It may be your only have a CD or DVD PLAYER and not a CD or DVD WRITER.
On the front of the little door that opens where you put the CD or DVD in should be some writing.
If it says CD ROM or DVD ROM it is a PLAYER only.
If it says CD/RW or DVD/RW or something like that then you have a CD writer and/or DVD writer.
My guess is you only have a PLAYER so cannot create CDs.
