Moving The Odd Piece Down South

My daughter is moving into an unfurnished flat in January. I have a double mattress and a fridge freezer going spare up here in Northumberland.

Does anyone know the cheapest way to transport these down south?

I was wondering about making them a part-load on a carrier, ie taking ages to get there and thus being cheaper than a courier or hiring a van.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

You could try phoning around courier companies in the area she's going to live in and seeing if any of them are delivering within a 30 milemradius of where you live. They would then possibly do it as a 'back load'. Which is usually the cost of the petrol.

The only thing with that CAS is, that southerners think that the North starts at Watford Gap and wouldn't dream of coming up here!!

hiya, not sure of the answer, but i wonder if it might actually be cheaper to buy them down here - she can perhaps go to a community furniture project and pick up an ff for 20 quid

Chrissa you could try this site. I read about it ages ago. It is ordinary peeps who are going about their business and have space to spare in their car/van/transit who know they are going from/to certain places on a certain day will take your goods for you. It works by bids I think and once someone puts in a price then someone else might offer to do it for less. The more flexible you can be with your dates, the better the price. The idea is that you are helping pay their petrol costs. Hope it helps.
