Have basically finished it, but can't figure out the derivation of three answers: 18a Writer with state reportedly more veiny: presumably pencil but why?; 25a Assent for a second, in cargo boat several months: Is this 'a year r so' and if so why?; 7d Premier writer with Scottish county name: Wilson? and why?

pennsyl vania is all i can think of for state
but no idea why wilson for county
Could it be pan fat because you pan a bad performance?
Pencil + veinier reportedly i.e. sounds like Pennsylvania.

A 'Yea' (assent), S for second, +RORO (Roll on Roll off)
Premier writer = Woodrow Wilson
wi' =Scottish abb. for with
L may stand for Londonderry
and son. (?)
7d - the premier is Harold Wilson; the writer is Angus Wilson; the Scottish county is Angus.
