Hi I am asking this on behalf of my Step-Dad who has just bought a new comp with winXP. His old computer runs on Win98 and can only save information onto a floppy disk. His problem is; how does he transfer the info and pictures he wants to keep from his old comp to the new one when it doesn't have a floppy and he can't save to CD-Rom? I suggested sending it all to his e-mail account and copying and pasteing in to the relevent folders. Apparantly he tried to send some pictures to one of his e-mail accounts and it took an hour! Hubby suggested connecting the 2 computers together, would this work? and how would you go about doing it? Does he need to buy something to enable this to happen? Thanx for any information, I said I would help him and want to make it look like I have a clue about what I am talking about ;o) lol

Sending via internet is a possibility, but unless he's on broadband, it'll take forever. (Still nearly forever with broadband anyway.)

Does the old computer have USB2 ports? If so, I'd suggest getting a flash memory stick. You can use it like a floppy, it's just much faster and stores much more. Just copy the stuff onto the memory stick from the old computer, then put it onto the new computer.

Hi fo3nix!

Of course! I never thought of a memory stick!!! I'm not sure if his old computer has a USB port but I will certainly tell him about this!
Thank you for your reply fo3nix :o)
Having said that, check if it's 98 or 98SE. I don't think that 98 has USB support.

Excellent! Thanx Zebuk
I will pass on what you & fo3nix have said :o)

Many thanx for your help xx
Easiest thing to do would be to get two hotmail addresses, then start a msn messenger conversation between the two and transfer files that way, a lot easier than setting up a network if you havent done it before.
