They are cremated and the ashes are scattered in the Himalayas (except those which die on a Thursday, which are scattered in Antarctica).

Birds that die at sea will be carrion for predators above and below the sea. Those that die near the shore will usually be washed up on the beach and provide food for crabs, larger gulls, ravens etc. Nothing is wasted as it's all part of the food chain.
