I have: they're quite entertaining but they're pretty much all based on one joke. They're the sort of books that I'd borrow from the library or pick up second-hand but wouldn't splash out too much of my hard-earned.
I'm halfway through Something Rotten and was attracted to the plot idea as I'm in a production of Hamlet at present! It involves a law-keeping force whose job it is to police fiction - so they go in and out of book plots, making sure everyone's keeping to the rules. Highly amusing - and some great Hamlet (and other fiction) in-jokes. Fully intend to read the other Thursday Next stories (Eyre Affair, Lost in A Good Book, Well of Lost Plots - I think!). As the other guy said, why not get one from the library first?

many thanks to both of you, I will certainly try the library.
Very entertaining. I liked the Thursday Next ones best. Yes, these are 'based on the one joke' because really they are a trilogy, though you can read each on it's own.
A trilogy of four books? Hmmm...
