What will probably happen with this episode at least is they’ll adopt the BBC version and then we can all calm down again. It is in many says a pity but those particular words are so emotive that they probably aren’t excused these days even by the context. And that sort of blatant insulting racism is, actually, rather dated so for younger people the point of it may be lost anyway
I agree, ick. The violent people shouldn't be able to negate the actual problem. While we may be familiar and used to these, it isn't all about us. There are also younger generations growing up, who will just find it outdated and pointless- whether we like it or not.
I don't think anything from the past should necessarily be banned, but there comes a point it should be consigned to the past where it belongs.
I think many comedies have had their day including Fawlty, Love Thy Neighbour and IAAHM. I understand that Johnny Speight was shocked at the popularity of Alf as he wrote the series as an attack on white racist chauvenist types.
Hooray! I cringed at Fawlty's offence and the peaceful Germans. Which is what was supposed to happen. But it was also funny.
