Forty years ago today - a very sad loss when Ian Curtis took his own life - an end to his pain, but also an end to a stream of wonderful music.

40 years! Goodness - he was a troubled soul wasn't he?
I was a big fan at the time of Joy Division and similar music but always felt uncomfortable watching Ian Curtis on stage/TV, this in particular

Love will tear us apart was a classic in my opinion

Yes - a very difficult watch indeed - I saw them somewhere in Stockport in '79 - out of tune and ragged, but still mesmerising.

I think they were always on the edge in case the lights triggered an epileptic fit.

A tortured soul indeed.
A very sad loss indeed. Not that I know more than I have read and seen, but from that I thought Sam Riley's portrayed him really well in Control.

A terrific band. After such sad loss, it's a shame two other members can't put their squabble in perspective.

Nearly put this as my 'this day in history' on my work's info sheet this morning but thought it too niche and put FB's entry onto the stock market instead (May 18th 2012). Yes I find him uncomfortable watching, such a tortured talent. I agree the film Control is an excellent portrayal, I've watched it several times.
