Scrabble
Boggle
Pictionary
New one for me, very good reviews.

Amazon.com User Recommendation
Uno is always good fun.
Scattergories.
Ludo - simple but absorbing.
Patchwork
Azule
Lost cities
All available from amazon
They might also like Inky Quest Treasure Hunt and Colouring Books. Available from Amazon. Mine loved them
As a follow on from Ludo if they find it to easy there is Uckers.
At 12 yrs. old, I'd think almost any board game would be OK. Certainly Monopoly used to keep us going for hours. Not a board game, but get 2 identical pack of cards and my sister and I spent hours playing Pelmanism - can also be used for Canasta. Scrabble, Chinese Chequers, Ludo -the list is long. :)
I use to love the classics!

Ludo

Snakes and ladders

Cluedo (only when playign with parents as it can get a bit confusing)

Ludo has to be the best.

What a great list! Thanks all so much.
Another option take them to a local charity shop who often have board games for sale.
