Lots of prank calls from this number. Ring and then silent. Did a google search and found some dodgy references to it. Anyone experienced this?

I don't know about that particular number, but we had a problem with like calls and made inquiries, turns out that some companies that 'cold call', use a machine that keeps doing it, but no message, I conacted my phone compane, and put a block on nuisance calls, cost me 2-00 a month, it worked, later we took the block off, and nothing since. its possible that yours is the same.
go to the phone preference web site hhttp://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps
Looking at those Google results, it seems that these calls come from a sales company who are trying to get you to buy a new phone.

Like many call centres, this firm appear to be using an automated call system which dials hundreds of numbers at once. As soon as a call is answered, the system transfers it to a salesperson. If, however, all of the salespeople are already busy with other calls, the system simply hangs up the call. If the company has difficulty recruiting and retaining call centre staff, it's quite possible that the vast majority of calls dialled by their computer will be terminated as soon as they're answered.

You should be able to stop the calls by registering your phone number with the Telephone Preference Service. You can do this for both landline and mobile numbers. The service is free and you can register online, here:

If your number is already registerd with TPS, still go to the above link and then click on 'Complaints'. Although the link says that TPS can't act regarding silent calls, this only means when you have no contact details for the firm. Report the call anyway, quoting the phone number and stating that it was apparently a failed sales call from COMMUNICATIONS DIRECT LIMITED

02920 is the code for cardiff numbers...
As a matter of interest, I registered with tsponline, and it didn't do any good, they still came through, give it a try though, you never know.
As Woo Woo says, the dialling code is for Cardiff because that's where the call centre is. The Swansea address I gave is for the company's registered office.

We have been getting these calls nearly every day for the past 2 months, sometimes at 2 in the morning. It is a different number every time, but the STD code is always the same, and after some investigation I believe the calls are coming from Australia. We have been registered with the TPS for the past 2 years, but it makes no difference. We now unplug the phone each night before we go to bed.

thanks for all this. What a nuisance!

Had 02920368700 missed call this morning!

Never ring them back...just check the numbers on google first. If it was important they would left a voicemail.

Just ignore them and if all fails contact your service provider.

This number has been calling me a lot recently. I've had 2 calls from it today (prompting me to research it a bit), and they've been calling me sporadically for about 2 weeks. I never answer it (I don't generally answer numbers I don't know), so I've not had hassle from it, but it is annoying. Just thought I'd let eveyone know it's still about!
I've just had my first call from this number today,i had this sort of thing happen with a different number a few months ago and typed it in google so i did it again this time, i got my phone from ebay is this why it's happening?
