Can You Stand On One Leg For Any Length Of Time?

I'm asking because when I go to my twice weekly Aquatone, in our cool down session, we have to stand on one leg and hold the uplifted leg behind us with one hand so that the knee is pointed to the floor and the top of the leg is vertical to the floor too. I can do this with ease, in the water, and do not find it difficult. I can stand on either right or left leg with ease because of the buoyancy of the water.

On dry land, I am only able to maintain this position for about six seconds before I wobble. I wobble more on my right leg than my left.

Could I improve this by practicing?

Can you maintain your balance when standing one one leg?

Have you had a go, Naomi? :-)

Not yet ... but I will, Tilly. :o)
Never mind balancing on one leg - as Dean Martin pointed out (and he ought to know), you are not properly drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on.
I've had a go, Tilly. No problem. I got fed up waiting to fall over so put my leg down again.

Now, I want to know that you are all doing it properly.
Stand on your right leg.
Lift your left leg behind.
Hold up your left foot with your left hand.
Press your left foot onto your bottom.
Make sure both knees are aligned.
Stand still.

Just lifting a foot off the ground doesn't count.

There you go.
Are you still on one leg?
Question Author
No, I'm sitting down, with a cup of tea.
You could have a high centre of gravity, Tilly;-)
"Hold up your left foot with your left hand."

I tried - I can't reach it!
leave it too flamingos, theyre built to do it.
I can do either . . . but not both.
Question Author
Dave...you can't reach your left foot with your left hand?
Why not?
