I am fed up of seeing begging notices on FB and other media requesting free or very cheap specific goods for a 'young mum in first home'; 'young man leaving the care system' etc.

They don't ask for a washing machine, they ask for a black washing machine. I have recently seen requests for a sleigh bed; a tv larger than 45"; a red fridge; a stainless steel microwave....

I asked the poster if the washing must be black and she said yes, because her cooker is black.

I sometimes wonder if these requests are genuine or placed by dealers hoping to make a good profit out of people's generosity.

When I started out in my first home colour matching was not my priority. In fact my appliances don't match now.

I'd also be happy for someone to come and collect something I no longer wanted/needed.
Bobbs, have you any part, or full bottles of Vodka you don't need, as I'm having a kids party. Thanks.
Haha, you'll not get that kinda thing here TC, and empty Prosecco bottle from last night if that helps ?
//I've never seen this on FB.//

Nor have I.

But that could be because I have never looked at FB. I must that what I've learned from this question does not encourage me to do so any time soon! :-)
Why do you bother to answer these types of threads, NJ?

FB serves a great purpose.
NJ, FB is okay for keeping in touch with friend and family, if it's used just for that then it's a good thing, there are Market Places where you can look in to buy a special item in your area, or sell something, I never post anything personal in there and certainly don't say when I'm on holiday till I come back, that invites theft from your house, although some fools do that
Anyone got an extra toilet...Must be free...Must be gold...Some low-life stole mine.
Bobbs can you send me your address, so I can Google earth you, to see if the blinds are closed, and the lights on. :0)
Blinds are open, I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed making a Sunday dinner and sorting stuff out for a girlie weekend in York
I think it's fair enough to ask for whatever you prefer... you may or may not get it, but being given someone's unwanted things has to be better than buying new and things being thrown out.
I can also see why anyone with a new home would prefer it to look good (at least to their taste).
What I hate is when you are giving stuff away and then they say"can you deliver"
Really? But you can always say no... I would pay someone to deliver if I wasn't able to myself. Worth asking...x
I did see on FB someone giving away a sofa to be collected. Someone who wanted it asked for the person to pay for delivery and to get the sofa cleaned first.

That is cheeky, ummm
I know. I wasn't sure if it was a wind up. Have you seen 'troll man'? He's so funny pretending to be customer services from various large stores.
