Hi, I have naturally got very dark hair. In the past I have gone to a salon to get a very vibrant funky intense red dye all over (like a pillar box red). To save money I have decided to try a DIY box at home. But it hasn't taken at all. It was especially for my hair colour (dark brown to black) but it just looks slightly more glossy (fine) with a slight hint of plum ( YUCK!) Does anybody know of a kit that I can use which will do the trick and be bright enough? I guess it will need some type of bleach in the ingredients. Are there any hairdressers out there who knows of a certain brand which will do the job? I don't want one of those semi veg based dyes. Cheers. Madrid4.

Forget dye, Dark hair is very ''IT'' in my eyes.

Be yourself {natural}
you could try the XXL Live Colours by Scwartzkopf - I've found then to be very good in the past - they are available in Superdrug, Asda & probably loads of other places too!

I would recommend that you pre-lighten your hair first as you'll get a much better colour and it'll last longer, but use 2 boxes if you've got longer hair - you can buy boxes of pre-lightener in the supermarket too (usually next to the high-lighting kits)

Hope this helps

ooooh, I forgot!

If you've got any hairdressing wholesalers nearby (eg Sally, etc) the Majirel range is very good but you will need a peroxide to mix it with - go for a 20 or 40% strength if you have really dark hair - DO NOT LEAVE ON FOR MORE THAN 30mins!!

XXL Live colours have worked very well on my daughter too- lovely bright glossy colour which lasts well.

Glossy with a hint of plum sounds good to me though!
try smart colour hair dyes. they come with bleach and colour all in one and takes about 1/2 hour!! the colour lasts well although red is prone to fading. make sure you buy shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

this is what the box looks like

Thanks. Have read your comments and will be trying one of the more intense producs asap. Jayne Ross's colour is exactly what I usually have.
Laurence2 - thanks but bit too boring for me, I'll go natural when I'm older I think (saying that I expect I'll be covering grey hair by then).
Cheers everyone.
