/// "The victim, a man, reported he had been sprayed with a substance. He was treated at the scene by paramedics; the victim suffered a minor irritation to his face," a spokesperson said. ///

/// Officers remained at the scene, the spokesperson added, but said test had confirmed the substance was not acid. ///

That's good to hear, at least that lets a certain comedian off the hook.

It would seem that they are now quick to rule out other things, just as they are regarding terrorism.

My understanding of the point that AOG is trying to make is not blaming Jo Brand specifically but that since she said what she said spokespersons will always now feel the need to re-assure that it wasn't acid - and had she not said that they wouldn't have mentioned it. Seems clear to me, her comment was always going to have the potential to put the idea in someone's...

// From citric to nitric i would care what was squirted in my face. //

oh if you have a choice - citric is much better
HCN - hydrocyanic acid - really bad

aqua regia - think three mile island - china syndrome
"oh if you have a choice - citric is much better "

If someone squirted citric acid in my face i'd whip out the salt and tequila.
'Excellent understanding of my post Prudie'

So is that what you're saying AOG - that if JB hadn't made the comment this person wouldn't have attacked the bloke on the tube?
I have been away a while but to ask if I or AOG is seriously suggesting that this wouldn't have happened if JB hadn't made the remark is a complete misunderstanding of the event. Of course I'm not, I'm saying (and I think AOG) that if JB had not made the remark a spokesperson would never have felt the need to mention acid in the first place, huge difference.
"that if JB had not made the remark a spokesperson would never have felt the need to mention acid in the first place, huge difference."

I disagree. I think the fact the person was sprayed in the face would have always been in the news, and i think the fact that acid was not used, would have also been in the news. Acid attacks are not a new thing at all, especially to London.
I think the confirmation that acid was *not* used was in response to the number of 'liquid attacks' which have actually involved acid.

I think that JB's comments had abolutely zero impact on the reporting of this assault.
It's just not the same when a couple of the gang are missing.
Maybe doing the backshift?
'I'm saying (and I think AOG) that if JB had not made the remark a spokesperson would never have felt the need to mention acid in the first place'

But it was obvious it wasn't acid and so could be ruled out immediately. The reporter was merely making it clear.

Not really worth a whole post was it?
