I brought a new car recently and it doesn't have a CD player. I do use my I-Pod for music but I have a lot of CD's also, I know that you can get USB CD players ( I assume for PC's/Laptops) but would they work if I were to plug into the USB in the car? and if so can anyone recommend one? TIAx

if you get a car entertainment system if not already built in they all have a usb socket or (and)sd card slot and yes it would work
Ivor, I wouldn't be so sure about that, the USB interface would be expecting to find music in MP3 format (or some other 'computer' format) but if Mooria is using music CDs then the in-car system would be unlikely to know what to do with the input. Mooria, people would be able to help more if you said the make and model of the car, then what it's got could be researched.

he can get his cd's converted to mp3 you can do this with many free converters

What kind of car would be modern enough to have a usb port but no CD player? Genuine question.
look in halfords prudie cd player in cars "so last year"
Well I am surprised and has given me something to watch out for. Personally in Mooria's situation I'd pay to have one fitted.
Well yes, the OP already said that they used an iPod but that they also wanted to use their CDs, my point was that an external CD player would be unlikely to work plugged into the USB port.
I got a Kia Venga this year that doesn't have a cd player.I ripped my cd's onto the computer then put them on a memory stick which then plugs into the usb socket in the car.

Many thanks for your answers, FYI its a Renault Capture. Didn't really think about it when I brought it, just really liked the car. I can put my CD's on a Memory stick, but I have hundreds so would take an age.

just pick out the tracks you like from your cds you dont have to put the whole lot on
The best selling radios on that Halfords link all have cd players.
not the one that loaded up see the specfications
Am I being a dinosaur if I think that if all on a stick it's far more faff to skip or replay? I'm always skipping or replaying tracks on my CD player in the car.
My car is 7 years old and when I play my music from a stick it skips and replays the same as if I'm playing a cd
