New blog.
The bird that we thought being eaten was a buzzard, turned out to be a tawny owl.

There's a vid of them being ringed.
The buzzard was the big one. The tawny owl came later.

See this. Comments about the buzzard on Page 48. Lubaska 7.22pm.

Cheers, Tilly. I never knew that site existed.
There you go then. :-)

Those owlets are beginning to explore. They missed a dormouse in the nest area, when they were out watching the world go by.

Not good news for the Sheffield peregrines this year. Intruder upset resident female, causing her to desert the scrape.
Aww! What kind of intruder? Another peregrine?

I'm only watching the Nottingham ones. I have to pick and choose out of so many webcams to watch.
Question Author
Another female peregrine. It injured the resident female. The 3 eggs are still in the box. The fourth one hatched, bit died 30mins later.
That is very sad news, Melv.
Question Author
Sad, but nature red in tooth and claw.
We've been witnessing natural selection, the female wasn't strong enough to hold onto her territory.
Yes, Melv. I have been experiencing Mother Nature at work this week, with a vicious magpie killing off and eating the starling fledglings. Eight, so far.
They are really developing their feathers now. Lovely to see.

Two strong, healthy Eagle Owlets. Last year there were none. Lotte and Leo did not feel that the situation was conducive to rearing young, so they did not breed.
Question Author
Nothing is safe if an eagle owl is nesting nearby. Do they do an analysis of prey been brought in at the end of the nesting season?
I can remember a fox cub some years ago.
