Just over a year ago,i entered into a 12 month contract with AVG for their Tune Up service, the licence of which has just expired. Through regular - and irritating - pop up notices, they are reminding me the licence has expired and are urging me to renew a.s.a.p as, according to their lab tests, i am missing out on the following; 75GB fewer junk files, 77% faster start up and 2.5 hours more battery life. The point is, 2 days prior to the expiry, i initiated a full tune up so if their lab tests are accurate (yeah, i know, what lab tests) then their tune up must be absolute rap with a c. Either that or their notice is pure bullpoo.

I went from free AVG to the paid product last year (or the year before) - can't remember exactly why but their warning messages were part of the problem.

But they keep telling me (pop-ups) that I am at risk and that people know where I am. They just want to sell new little add-ons.

I don't know much about computers and this means that they can scare you into purchasing the best computer software from them.

It is a scary world out there in cyber-land.

Too true, wolf. The reason i cancelled was because they took 24 months (almost £70) from my account about 2 weeks before the expiry date. I challenged this and they returned the money quickly enough but they said it was because i had left the contract 'open ended' as such by not stating i wished it to expire at the end of those 12 months. I may have continued with it had they only taken another year's subs. I'll see how i go without any sort of tune up. Not seeing much difference so far, to be honest?
you only need a free antivirus / firewall and cc cleaner, all this tune up stuff does nothing more than you can do with cc cleaner and its free,
