Hi. I need to type a word that looks like it's coming out of a tannoy with the effect that the word is squeezed in the middle expanding out to normal size. This hopefully will give the effect of a broadcasted tannoy message. Any ideas how this could be achieved?

Select a small size for the first letter and increase sequentially?
You've not told us which program you'll be typing in. Other than 4candles suggestion above, there's probably not much you can do if you're only using word processing software but you can distort text easily if you're using a DTP program. So what software have you got?
In MS Word, insert a Simple Text Box, add text, then use Drawing Tools > Text Effects > Transform, and select the appropriate Warp option
Is this effect needed for one word in a line of text, or just the word on its own?
If the latter, and you have MS Word, it would be easy to create using the 'WordArt' feature. The shape and/or size can be modified to suit.
