It changed on October 2018 I believe. The 6 month thing has been a project fear line doing the rounds for some time.

It’s on the gov.uk site that in the event of a no deal then 6 months remaining on a passport will be needed - my second eldest son is off on a residential to France in July and his passport runs out in December (the trip cost nearly £900 so I’m not going to risk it for losing a couple of months on his passport).
