Was renewing my Irish Passport on line.
The application was rejected as my passport was more than 5 years Past the expiry date.
It expired on 4 July 2014. I say the 5 years are up on 4 July 2019.
My wife also argues I am wrong and they are right.
Am I losing it?

Well it was rejected, so simply apply as if it was a new passport.

From your dates, no i would not say you are loosing it, i would say there has been an error somewhere as 4th july 2014 + 5 years is 4th july 2019, and it's not the 4th july 2019 so i'm unsure of the error.
i woul say 3rd july 2019 as there are never two 4th julys in 1 year
"they" are always right, even if their website is wrong. I'd also say July 3, but that's still months away.
It could be a simple human error. I was on a train when a conductor refused to accept another passenger's Young Person's Railcard. When he asked why, the conductor replied "Your card has an expiry date of the 16th of March. It's the 19th today". The customer then replied "Yes, I agree it's the 19th today but we're still in February!", leaving the conductor both red-faced and apologetic. Something as simple as that could have happened at the Passport Office.

Call the Dublin passport office to query the rejection:

seems to be computer rather than human error, Buenchico (leaving aside the human who programmed the mistake into the computer)
