Superman - I missed the beginning!

Help me please - can anyone tell me what happened right at the beginning of Superman Returns - we went to see it yesterday but due to a certain cinema chain's ineptness, we missed the beginning because of the long queue. We saw it from when Lex's mother/relative was on her deathbed and signed everything over to him. Did we miss anything? Thanks for your answers!!

She was one of those mad old ladies who falls in love with convicts rather than a relative. If memory serves (I could well be wrong) there was a brief title card explaining Supes' disappearance and that was it.
