Pool Heater Efficiency

I have a 5kw pool heater (if you can bear it see "23 Amp" question below!). Can anyone who has one that they consider to be working correctly tell me how hot/warm the water coming out the outlet pipe should feel in comparison to the unheated pool water. My husband is expecting it to be like a hot shower (!) and thinks the heater is not working properly as the water feels only a few degress hotter than the pool. Oh, the delights of first time pool using!

Just an opinion! An average electric shower (where the water is heated inside the shower box) is about 7.5 - 10 kW(already almost twice the power of your heater). A shower has a relatively slow flow (as I remember from bitter experience in winter!!). I assume the water flow from your outlet is fairly quick (say like a tap), if so, then there is no way the water will 'pick up' as much heat as a the water in a shower. I think you will be lucky to get anywhere near 20C.

Due tgo the flow rate of the water across the element, the difference in temperature between the inlet and outlet is very minimal.
